OF ALL THE GOSPELS, MATTHEW’S IS THE MOST EVIDENTLY ROOTED IN THE OLD TESTAMENT.
Whereas Mark is the master of the subtle allusion, Matthew makes his use of the OT much more obvious. In fact, one commentator has compared Matthew to a 1st Century study Bible!
In this course, as we work through this Gospel we will play close attention to how Matthew uses the OT and how that should encourage us in our reading of the OT.
Of course, Matthew is not just simply appealing to the OT for its own sake. He is committed to the idea that the OT points to Jesus. So, as we work through Matthew’s Gospel together we will deepen in our understanding of the person and work of the Lord Jesus.
