Irish Women’s Convention 2019
Speaker: Melissa Kruger
Subject: Finding Contentment in a Covetous World.
What keeps us from experiencing lasting joy and contentment?
Just as envy robbed Eve of the pleasures of Eden, so often our covetous desires steal away our joy and appreciation of God’s goodness in our lives. Our goal is not to live a life free of desires. As we experience the healing power of the gospel, we hope to turn our desires to Jesus and find abundant life in Him alone.
We are running the main conference on Saturday (three talks) but with the option of a shorter Friday evening event (two talks) as an alternative. So please come along and join us on either Friday 11th or Saturday 12th October 2019.
Talk 1: The Cry of the covetous: “Life isn’t Fair!” We may think we don’t struggle with coveting, but usually that’s because we don’t really understand the way this sin works in our hearts. In this session, we’ll define coveting, consider its characteristics, learn to recognise it in our own lives, and understand the unbelief that fuels our envy.
Talk 2: The envy of Eve: Its pattern and consequences. In this session, we’ll look at Eve in the Garden and Achan in the Promised Land and observe the pattern of coveting, as well as the consequences it yields. As we observe their unbelief, we’ll also consider the ways we fall into the same patterns of desire.
Talk 3: The hope of Christ: A new pattern for desire. In this session, we’ll look at Christ and the ways he overcame temptation and set a new pattern for us to follow. We’ll explore how Christ frees us from sin’s penalty and power so that we can walk in newness of life and freedom from sin.
